Rivendell
A highlight of the Fellowship of the Ring, the Elven city of Rivendell acted as a brief respite for our Hobbit Heroes and a place of healing for the protagonist, Frodo Baggins. It also was the birthplace of the fellowship, and the council of Elrond is an iconic scene and highlight of the first chapter of the story.
The city itself has no obvious direct cultural inspiration, though it is suspected the valley of Rivendell was inspired by valleys in Switzerland Tolkien had hiked through. Some have written the architecture has Celtic inspiration, resembling mythology of the realm of the deities.
The town of Rivendell in brick-built form captures all the best features of the settlement. The buildings all across the settlement, the gorgeous low-peaked tan rooves and tall white walls, and the natural features which fold in and around the city. The 21000+ build includes all the iconic locations of the town – the house of healing where Frodo rested after the attack of the Nazgul, Bilbo’s home, and the council of Elrond. It also includes the bridge where Aragorn and Arwen departed, and the forge where Aragorn’s sword Anduril was reforged.
